As 2021 approaches, Autotrader believes it is a good idea to create a list of the best new automotive technologies in 2022. The technology of the automotive industry has become more complex year by year, and new automotive technologies will come out in 2022.

From the growing selection of electric vehicles to the development of car-related smartphones, autonomous driving functions, etc., new cars are a typical example of how automotive technological innovations continue to change and shape consumers’ daily lives.

Whether under the hood or in the cabin, drivers can benefit from improvements in performance, safety, and efficiency due to new automotive technology advancements every year. This is Autotrader's best new automotive technology in 2022, in no particular order.

The electric Polestar 2 is the first car to use the new Android car operating system. Not to be confused with Android Auto, this new operating system is a system developed by Google and open to third-party developers. It integrates Google applications such as Google Maps and Google Assistant for navigation. Just say "OK, Google" to initiate a voice command, and Google Assistant can help you handle music, maps, climate control, and more. Don’t worry if you don’t have an Android phone-the system also has wireless Apple CarPlay.

Although electric pickup trucks have been around for some time, today they are more realistic than ever. Some of them are still in the concept stage-such as Tesla Cybertruck and Nissan concept pickup-but Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T will both begin delivery in 2022. You might even see a GMC Hummer EV 2021 in the lane before the end of the year. Electric pickups have several advantages over more traditional gasoline-powered trucks, including the impressive capabilities and excitement of electric torque. Performance. Some clever features are available, such as Ford Smart Backup Power, which allows you to use Ford F-150 Lightning as a generator.

Hot-rodders has long used crate motors to install modern engines in project cars or racing cars, but now the scene of crate motors is being overwhelmed by the availability of electric crate motors such as Chevrolet Performance eCrate and Ford Performance Eluminator. It's not just traditional brands that are starting to move-new startups like Electric GT and reVolt focus on this niche market. EV crate motors can be used in your vehicle repair projects to add extra performance to your Tesla or almost any other application you can imagine.

BlueCruise is a competitor of Ford's GM Super Cruise System. When driving on a highway drawn by Ford, BlueCruise can take over, you can remove your hands from the steering wheel and your feet from the pedals. However, it is not fully automated-even if it does make highway driving safer and easier, you still need to be vigilant while driving and keep your eyes on the road. Ford BlueCruise hands-free driving system can be used for 2022 Ford F-150 and 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E. For other eligible Ford vehicles, BlueCruise's wireless updates will decline in the first quarter of 2022.

Although custom modification of trucks and vans is nothing new, it has become increasingly crazy and high-end recently. A popular trend in the modified world is overlanding, which is essentially long-distance off-roading. Custom equipment is upgraded (e.g., geared roof racks, built-in tents) and, in extreme cases, customized trucks, built-in beds, and appliances are used to facilitate landing like an all-terrain motorhome. With custom decoration, the limit is as high as your budget and imagination.

For many years, drivers can choose to control or monitor certain aspects of the car through remote control, with functions such as locking/unlocking the car or remote starting. The 2.0 version of this technology just uses a smartphone as the key to the entire car. Although Apple and BMW currently provide this technology, as well as Mercedes-Benz, Ford Mustang Mach-E and some other companies, more and more affordable cars are now beginning to provide this feature. Hyundai offers it on Sonata and other models for Android users, but we suspect that this product will expand to more platforms and models over time. The concept is simple-you only need your smartphone to enter, start and drive the car, as well as lock and unlock the car. You can also share your car keys with others virtually, such as virtual valet keys.

The passenger interactive display is a new feature of high-end Jeep models such as Grand Wagoneer. It is a 10.25-inch screen located above the glove box, providing a different ride experience for the front passenger. It can provide passengers with GPS coordinates, control audio and rear entertainment systems, and even view the vehicle's camera. Jeep models continue to become more luxurious and high-tech without affecting their off-road capabilities. This is another step for high-end Jeep to become a luxury SUV that can truly compete with Land Rover and other models.

LED lighting is a great way to make classic cars more modern-it not only improves the appearance of the vehicle, but also significantly improves visibility. Upgrading to HID headlights is a bit complicated, involving transformers and additional wiring. However, upgrading to LEDs is a simple plug-and-play process because they do not require much wattage. This has become a popular upgrade, so much so that some online retailers specialize in it. Websites such as Dapper Lighting and Vintage Car LED can sell you LED lighting designed for classic cars, so this is not an obvious modification.

Although opponents once denounced it as "steam software", Lucid Air finally went into production. This electric luxury sedan is a strong competitor to Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT. In theory, Lucid Air beats the Tesla Model S in terms of range and performance, producing up to 1,111 horsepower and a maximum range of up to 520 miles. The initial suggested retail price is less than US$80,000, and its price is relatively reasonable compared to competitors. In addition to the exciting electric power system, Lucid Air also has luxurious interiors and high-tech features, such as a 34-inch 5K glass cockpit display, wireless updates, DreamDrive driver assistance kit, stylish mobile apps and more .

Gasoline engines are constantly becoming cleaner and more efficient. Nissan's innovative variable compression turbocharged engine has been used in Nissan Altima and Infiniti Q50 for several years. Now, Nissan has just launched a new version of VC-Turbo as the basic engine of the popular Nissan Rogue. It is the first 3-cylinder VC-Turbo engine. Compared with the external engine in Rogue, it can provide more than 20 horsepower, 44 pound-feet of torque, and triple the number of miles per gallon. The ingenious engineering of this engine changes the compression ratio while you are driving, which means better performance when you start, and efficiency is optimized during highway cruising. The result is a well-balanced, fuel-efficient engine, and we hope to see it in more Nissan models soon.
