Tech company Dyson has just announced a brand new product – headphones!

What was once known as a vaccum cleaner brand has had huge success with hair styling tools in recent years, particularly the renowned Airwrap.

Now, the British company has moved into wearable technology for the first time ever, but the new Dyson Zone is no ordinary pair of headphones.

The headset has an air purifying mouth piece that internet users think is seriously bizarre. Some are even convinced that it’s an April Fools prank…

Get in the zone with Dyson’s latest technology. 30 years of air filtration expertise pioneered into a wearable, high-end audio device. With a contact-free visor to supply a continuous stream of purified air to your nose and mouth. So, you can breathe cleaner air, anywhere.

On Twitter, people are convinced that Dyson’s new product is an April Fools prank.

The famous day of jokes is coming up on Friday (April 1st), just two days after the tech company revealed the new headphones.

Internet users think the timing it a little bit shady and are convinced that the strange-looking listening device is a joke.

People have been taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “Dyson kicking off April Fools a day early this year?”

“Did Dyson release their April fools a little early?” said another whilst a third user added: “Is this.. real? Or has an April Fools email gone out early??”

“Wearing the Dyson Zone in public should be considered a hate crime against humanity. How is this a real thing and not some sick April Fools joke?” said another.

After thousands of people took to Twitter in confusion, Dyson cleared up the speculation once and for all.

A Twitter user commented on the headphones announcement, writing: “I’ve just realised what day it is on Friday. Surely they didn’t plan out a two year April Fools???”

Dyson then replied saying “this is no April Fools joke 😀,” confirming that (shockingly) the headphones are in fact real.

This is no April Fools joke 😀

Now that we know the headphones are real, let’s see what they actually do.

The futuristic design consists of two parts, over ear headphones and a mouthpiece.

As you’d expect from a pair of headphones, the noise-cancelling earpiece allows you to listen to audio from your device, but it’s the mouth part that’s a little strange.

It looks like something straight our of a Marvel movie, but the mouthpiece is actually an air-purifier.

On its website, Dyson describes the Dyson Zone as “Dyson’s first wearable purifier” which “captures city pollution including gas, allergens and particulate matter and cancels unwanted noise with advanced noise cancellation and pure, high-fidelity audio”.

Air is sucked in through filters in the ear cups that capture the allergens and pollutants. Then, the air is purified and channeled to the nose and mouth through the visor.

Apparently, it’s 97% effective at getting clean air to the lungs according to Dyson and tackles the growing problem of air pollution.

Chief Engineer Jake Dyson said: “Air pollution is a global problem – it affects us everywhere we go. In our homes, at school, at work and as we travel, whether on foot, on a bike or by public or private transport.”

“The Dyson Zone™ purifies the air you breathe on the move. And unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturised air pumps,” he continued.
