The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office has filed a lawsuit against a Rolling Meadows-based company accusing the company of selling counterfeit hand sanitizers to schools.

The complaint filed on Monday stated that the school health company sold more than $100,000 of hand sanitizer to schools between March 2020 and July 2020.

The Office of the Attorney General said in a press release that the school health company stated that the product is called Theraworx Protect, which can protect against the spread of COVID-19 through multiple hours of protection, but it does not contain any disinfectant ingredients required by law.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey said: "This company is capitalizing on concerns about the growing public health crisis to profit by selling fake hand sanitizers to schools that want to stop the spread." Responsible for illegal actions that put the health of our children, teachers, and employees at risk."

According to Massachusetts officials, the company's customers and employees questioned the product's performance and ingredients.

The complaint also stated that the staff of the school health company admitted in an email to the customer in March 2020 that there was no reliable evidence that the product could stop the spread of the coronavirus. The Office of the Attorney General stated that despite this, the company continued to falsely market the product.
