Atmōs is an air filter suitable for your face, if you can withstand large volumes | Gadgets

Mikal Peveto said that to make the ideal personal air filter, your face needs to be sealed. The American head of Aō Air showed another option at CES: Atmōs. The device uses a small fan to generate a high-pressure clean air bag at the front of the mask you breathe, without sealing.

The transparent device goes over your mouth, and air is drawn in from under your ears, where there are sensors that measure the breathing rate. The goal is to bring it to consumers-in fact, tonight. It will be pre-ordered at a price of $350 and will be shipped in July this year.

Peveto told Engadget that the company's goal is for ordinary consumers to wear it outdoors while away from home or office filtration systems.

But we cannot ignore the obvious volume. This is a piece of plastic weighing 256 grams, a fan, and a sensor. When Engadget editor-in-chief Dana Wollman tried Atmōs, she found it was heavy and noticed that it caught her nose.

Peveto described how low-tech masks have become part of life in some Asian cities, especially those with poor air quality. He seems optimistic that people will accept the size of this device. Peveto said that Aō Air plans to shrink the mask, using the large size of the original iPod as an example. "It's [50 times better than a regular mask]. Think about anything from the first generation."
